Lakeview Airport

Lakeview Airport-Griffith Field
Airport serves Lakeview and Montcalm County and is owned by Village
Of Lakeview. The paved runway extends for 3500 feet. The facility is
at an elevation of 971 feet
Over the Past few years you may have noticed the improvements that
have been made to the Airport. These improvements have been made
possible through grants made by the Federal Government and 5% each
matched fund money from the State of Michigan and the Village of
Lakeview. These grants are made through the Michigan Aeronautics
Commission.

AIRPORT TERMINAL BUILDING
Griffith Field (Lakeview Airport) has been awarded a combined federal and state grant to replace the existing Terminal Trailer. For many years attempts have been made to secure funding for this project. Late 2005 our proposed Terminal Building Project was awarded funding.
The building project has been estimated to cost $200,000. The Fed's are funding 80% and the state is funding 17.5% which means the Village will only fund 2.5% of the project. Construction will be complete in September 2006.
The building is 56' x 28' and will contain an airport manager's office, flight planning room, restrooms, lobby and a conference room. The conference room will be available to various community groups to hold meetings.
The airport has seen vast changes and improvements over the past seven years. The Lakeview Airport is one of the busiest small airports in the state. The airport supports 14 jobs, has 13,000 landings and takeoffs per year and there are 39 based aircraft. If you are interested in flying there are licensed instructors available and aircraft that can be rented.
May 2001, $91,111 to design taxi-streets and apron rehabilitation;
and to rehabilitate beacon.
May 2002, $21,000 for designing apron rehabilitation.
January 2003, $ 166,667 Construct taxiway streets, SW hangars,
rehabilitate apron, north hangar area, clearing.
May 2004, $166,667 to Lakeview Griffith Field in Lakeview for
pavement sealing and parallel taxiway. design. Snow removal
equipment.
"These grants help create jobs and grow local economies throughout
Michigan," said Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm. "Improved airports
contribute to more tourism, travel and trade in Michigan, and that
means growing optimism about our economy and better quality of life
for every citizen."
Federal and state dollars for airport development primarily come
from restricted, user-generated funds. The primary sources of
revenue are aviation fuel, passenger taxes and aircraft registration
fees.
LAKEVIEW AIRPORT
RECEIVES SNOW REMOVAL EQUIPMENT GRANT
Many of you may have noticed the DPW using a new piece of equipment
this winter. The Village succeeded in capturing another General
Aviation Entitlement Act Grant. This is a Federal grant
administered
by the Michigan Bureau of Aeronautics. The Village applied for and
was awarded a grant to purchase a new front-end loader to assist
with removing snow from the runway. The loader came equipped with a
2-yard bucket, a 16’ power angle plow, and an 8’ snow blower. The
entire unit cost was $115,000 and the Village of Lakeview’s match
was less than $5,000.
Not only is this piece of equipment a wonderful addition for the DPW.
It saves an incredible amount of time when plowing the runways. We
were able to reduce plow time by approximately four hours each time
we plowed.
Although the primary use of the loader is for the airport, the
Village will see a significant benefit from this equipment. We are
fortunate to have this grant.
Airport Receives Construction
Grant
A full-length parallel taxiway will
be built the summer 2005 at the airport. The Village succeeded in
capturing another General Aviation Entitlement Act Grant. This is a
Federal grant administered by the Michigan Bureau of Aeronautics.
The project has been designed and is currently out for bid.
Construction will begin in May and should be complete by late July.
The project costs an estimated $400,000 to $500,000. The Village of
Lakeview Match for this project is 2.5% or approximately $10,000.
